I had the opportunity to watch “Fantasy Island” this weekend, and it was just an okay film.

Entering the movie, I had very high hopes for it. I didn’t know anything about the old TV show it was based on, but I enjoy Lucy Hale, Michael Pena and Jimmy O. Yang. (RELATED: The Trailer For ‘Westworld‘ Season 3 Has Been Released. It’s Absolutely Insane)

However, I started getting a shade worried when I started seeing early reviews come out. They were all atrocious. “Fantasy Island” was getting panned across the board.

I will say this about the film. It’s not nearly as bad as the reviews are making it out to be. It’s a fun thriller that is meant to be a popcorn flick.

The plot is incredibly simple. A group of people arrive on an island to have their fantasies carried out. Soon, they realize things aren’t as they appear to be, all hell breaks loose and the viewer is taken down a rabbit hole of truth.

Let me be clear on this. “Fantasy Island” isn’t a bad movie at all. It’s a solid 5/10. It’s just not great, and it’s probably not a movie I’d watch again.

There are a lot of fun moments, there are some funny moments, they try to stun the audience with some twists, some of it works and some of it doesn’t.

I certainly don’t regret buying a ticket. It was worth the nearly two hour runtime, but I’m not in any rush to watch it again.

If you enjoy thrillers with a horror angle, then “Fantasy Island” is probably for you. If not, then it’s probably not worth your time.
