Wisconsin quarterback Jack Coan got shown some huge respect ahead of the 2020 college football season.

247Sports released its rankings for the quarterbacks in the Big 10, and Coan came in at fourth. The only players ahead of him were Justin Fields at Ohio State, Minnesota star Tanner Morgan and Indiana’s Michael Penix Jr. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)

I’m honestly not that surprised Coan got shown this kind of respect. Despite the constant complaining from Wisconsin fans (myself included), the senior put together a nice season.

He didn’t have many turnovers, commanded the offense, limited mistakes, made some plays with his legs and did enough to win 10 games.

The problem for Coan is that his ceiling isn’t super high, and we’ve kind of now seen the top of it. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Jack Coan proved to be a very serviceable starter on the biggest stage in college football. The issue for Coan is that Graham Mertz is waiting in the wings and has a much higher ceiling.

However, given Paul Chryst’s love for experience, I still think Coan likely gets the starting nod in 2020, but we’ll see both play.

Spring camp is only a few days away, and these questions will start getting answered. Can’t wait!
