President Donald Trump’s campaign will hand out masks and strongly encourage people to wear them at an upcoming rally in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, according to his campaign.

The rally will be outdoors in Portsmouth on Saturday evening, according to a Sunday Trump 2020 campaign statement. The campaign also plans to give out masks and attendees are “strongly encouraged” to wear them, according to the statement.

Chairman Ray Buckley of the New Hampshire Democratic Party criticized the president’s decision to host a rally during the coronavirus pandemic.

“In the midst of a global pandemic, Trump has chosen to come to NH to shine a spotlight on his chaotic and unprepared response to COVID-19 that has launched our state into a recession and cost 380 Granite Staters their lives,” Buckley said on Twitter Sunday.

National Press Secretary Hogan Gidley said the campaign is “looking forward” to seeing “freedom-loving patriots” at the rally, according to the campaign press statement.

The president has been criticized for hosting a rally and 4th of July celebrations at Mount Rushmore, and his recent rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma had a lower turnout than expected.  (Related: Trump Announces Creation Of New National Monument–Here’s What It Is)

“President Trump’s record-setting accomplishments in record-setting time have improved the lives of all Americans. He rebuilt, restored and renewed our great nation once, and he’ll do it again,” Gidley said.

“We look forward to so many freedom-loving patriots coming to the rally and celebrating America, the greatest country in the history of the world,” Gidley added.

The New Hampshire Democratic Party did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation for comment.
