Smaller colleges don’t plan on making a decision on the college football season until the powerhouse programs do.
According to Pete Thamel, a Group of Five athletic director told him that the G5 schools will wait for the Power Five teams to make a decision on what to do during the coronavirus pandemic. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)
“I think that the G5, even though we may not like it, we’re comfortable in understanding where the power is. A part of that is the guarantee game situation,” the unnamed athletic director said.

This move seems to make a lot of sense. If the Power Five teams, which include the ACC, Big 10, SEC, PAC-12 and Big 12, play during the coronavirus pandemic, then you can expect the G5 to play.
However, if the most powerful programs in America sit out the season, then I think it’s pretty reasonable to assume smaller programs will too.

After all, schools like Ohio State and Wisconsin have tons of resources. They’re incredibly well-equipped to handle this situation.
Smaller schools aren’t sitting on fat cash reserves, and they’re dependent on money games from the P5 to pump up their athletic department.

If the P5 doesn’t play, then the G5 won’t either. If the powerhouses move forward with the season during the pandemic, then I think you’ll see the smaller schools play too.
It’s really that simple.
