Former President Barack Obama said 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders have similar policy goals.
Obama said that Biden and Sanders agree on a lot from a “40,000-foot level,” in an interview with the New Yorker published Sunday. Obama went on to mention a few policy issues which he believes the two truly agree on, including healthcare and education, Fox News reported.
“If you look at Joe Biden’s goals and Bernie Sanders’s goals, they’re not that different, from a forty-thousand-foot level. They both want to make sure everybody has health care,” Obama said the interview. “They want to make sure everybody can get a job that pays a living wage. They want to make sure every child gets a good education.”

“A lot of times, the issue has to do with ‘How do we go about that, and what are the coalitions we need?’,” Obama said, saying times have changed. “What I think the moment has done is to change some of those calculations, not because necessarily Joe’s changed but because circumstances have changed.” (RELATED: Sen. Many of Sanders’ supporters have pushed back against voting for Biden. Sanders’ former National press Secretary Briahna Joy Gray criticized Biden for selecting Democratic California Sen. Kamala Harris as his running mate. After the news broke that Biden selected Harris to be his running mate, Joy Gray labeled Harris as America’s “top cop” and blasted the Democratic party. Republican Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy criticized Biden on Friday, saying Biden is not the real leader of the party but Sanders is.
