A child has been charged with four counts of murder after four members of a family were found dead inside their West Virginia home Sunday.

A fifth member of the family was found away from the home alive, according to West Virginia Metro News. Kanawha County Sheriff Mike Rutherford claimed the murders had been committed in a violent manner and were not random, the outlet reported.

A man, his wife and two children, aged 12 and 13, were found dead inside the home by a relative around 10:40 a.m. Sunday, according to the outlet. The family member had attempted to get in contact with the family, but couldn’t reach anyone. The relative then went to the home, which was unlocked. “We determined immediately on the deputies’ arrival they were all deceased,” Rutherford said, the outlet reported.

All four victims were found with gunshot wounds, but the actual cause of death has not been released, according to the outlet.

Neighbor Samra Mullins called the murders “nerve-wracking.”

“It’s a little nerve-wracking,” Mullins told the outlet. “You don’t expect this to be so close to home.”

“It’s just more stress,” she added. “You know, we’re dealing with the COVID. It’s just more bad news.”
