Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz is among the favorites to win the Heisman next season.
According to the odds for 2021 from MyBookie, the redshirt freshman passer is at 15/1 to take home the trophy after next season. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)

Mertz finished the 2020 season with nine touchdowns, five interceptions and 1,238 yards through the air in seven games.
He got off to an insanely hot start before struggling down the stretch during the 4-3 campaign.
For as much as I like Mertz and have hyped up the young passer for the Badgers, it’s insane that he’s at 15/1, and he shouldn’t be that high.
Mertz looked unstoppable against Illinois and he looked solid against Michigan. Outside of that, he looked average at best.

There were some moments that were honestly difficult to watch this past season with him. He had serious growing pains.
Now, I’m supposed to believe he’s a major Heisman candidate? Yeah, let’s pump the brakes.

All this tells me is that the oddsmakers are blaming injuries and coronavirus for Wisconsin’s struggles this season more than they are Mertz. I hope that’s true because that’s an easy fix.
However, I’m still not taking him as a Heisman favorite until I see some tape on him in camp.
Prove me wrong, and I’ll be happy as all hell.
