A group of House Republicans who are physicians and or former health care workers sent a letter to Dr. Anthony Fauci regarding the health risks related to the current border crisis Tuesday, calling on him to express his concerns on the national health emergencies created by the surge in illegal immigration.

The Daily Caller first obtained the letter which was organized by North Carolina Rep. Greg Murphy and signed by twelve other lawmakers, who all serve on the Doctors Caucus. In the letter they ask Fauci, the top infectious disease expert at the National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and President Joe Biden’s top medical advisor, to call out the health risks associated with the influx of migrants coming across the southern border every day, many of who have not been tested for COVID-19.

“Several of us, who are your fellow physicians and healthcare professionals, recently visited our southern border and have come away with grave concerns over the lack of COVID-19 accountability during this world-wide pandemic. The Border Crisis is a public health emergency as well as an issue of national security. In your role as Chief Medical Advisor to the President, we feel it is imperative that you use your position to publicly express your concerns over the national health emergencies created by this surge in illegal immigration,” part of the letter states.

Murphy explained his reasoning for sending the letter in a conversation with the Daily Caller, where he said Fauci is neglecting his duties as the chief medical adviser to the president.

“We’re very disappointed… If you look at our southern border, our northern border, you can’t fly into this country without a negative COVID test. But they’re allowing people really across the border to come in who are COVID positive. The Customs and Border Patrol agents are doing the very, very best they can to try to catch these individuals and if they can quarantine them. By the sheer numbers, we know that individuals are coming into this country who are COVID positive,” Murphy said,

“This is in light of the feared fourth surge. So for Dr. Fauci, as the chief medical adviser to the president, to say that he has nothing to do with the border is him neglecting his duties. He should be commenting upon what’s going on at the border and trying to deal with that,” he added.

“Well, I hope he will. We’re fellow physicians. This isn’t in any way meant to be an attack, but it is a very big concern and it grows on the fact that he has said it’s not his duty. Well, we think it is his duty to speak on this particular issue because it is a threat to our national security. It’s a threat to the nation’s health during a pandemic. Everybody turns to him for leadership during the pandemic and for him to be silent on this is very disturbing to we as physicians and health care providers,” Murphy said. (RELATED: ‘Human Traffickers & Cartel Members’ — Cruz Gives Firsthand Look At What He Has Seen On Senate Border Trip)
