Democratic mayoral nominee Eric Adams said New York City should “go after guns” after a violent incident that left 10 people shot in Corona, Queens, ABC 7 reported.

Eighteen people were shot in six separate crime scenes in New York City Saturday night, according to ABC 7.

In one incident, two men are seen on video opening fire on a public street corner in Queens. Afterward, two men on scooters chase after the shooters, ABC 7 reported.

“We need a joint gangs and guns task force with federal, state and city coordination to make sure that we can do information sharing, go after the guns that are on the street, stop the flow of guns and take down these crews,” Adams said, according to ABC 7.

Adams said that the Democratic Party’s priorities for gun control are “misplaced,” that assault weapons were too much the focus of the current Democratic party strategy at the federal level on July 11, 2021. He said Democrats should instead focus on violence where handguns were used.

Adams previously criticized Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s executive order on gun violence early in July in a CBS “This Morning” interview. (RELATED: Eric Adams Shows Yet Again That Leftists Dominate The Dialogue, Only To Lose Elections)

“My first question is, what took so long? And why has it taken us so long? We’re watching these babies die, year after year after year,” Adams said on CBS. “No one seems to care.”

Adams won the Democratic nomination for mayor of New York City on July 6, 2021, after updated vote tallies gave him a narrow lead over former city sanitation commissioner Kathryn Garcia.

Republican candidate for mayor Curtis Sliwa also chimed in on the recent shooting.

“There has to be stop and frisk – if you’re not stopping and frisking these men who are at war with one another, you’re guaranteeing more of them coming out with loaded handguns and 9 millimeters and start popping shots at innocent members of community as we’ve seen over these past months,” Sliwa said, according to ABC 7.
