A police officer in New Jersey pled guilty Monday after being charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Mark Stinnard admitted to having sex and exchanging nude photos with an underage girl, according to NBC New York. The sexual relationship between Stinnard and the minor allegedly occurred on his personal time and did not affect his job, the outlet reported. Police received a tip in April 2018 that an underage girl had sexual encounters with a Pompton Lakes Police officer, NBC New York reported. Investigators then found out the police officer was Stinnard.
“Mark accepted responsibility for his actions and looks forward to putting this ordeal behind him,” Stinnard’s defense attorney said, according to NBC New York. “Mark regrets the decision he made concerning this entire matter.”
Prosecutors requested Stinnard receive five years of probation and attend mandatory sex offender therapy, the outlet reported.
A Jersey City, New Jersey, police officer was also arrested in February after trying to have sex with two underage girls. The police officer was charged with first degree conspiracy to commit human trafficking, second degree attempted aggravated sexual assault, and third degree endangering the welfare of a child.
Stinnard has been suspended without pay for three and a half years, Pompton Lakes chief of police Derek Clark told the Daily Caller.
