An Idaho sheriff described how the fentanyl crisis and the influx of the drug through the southern border affected communities across the country during a Wednesday morning appearance on Fox News.

“It is the tip of the iceberg. We do not have the resources in the United States and on the border to stop or interdict the sheer amount coming across that border of methamphetamine and heroin. The fentanyl is really the worst drug that we’ve seen on the street, it is unimaginable, none of us ever thought we’d be in this predicament,” Canyon County, Idaho, Sheriff Keiran Donahue told “Fox and Friends First” co-host Carley Shimkus.

“It is getting by us day in and day out and we simply are not catching the vast majority of this stuff,” he added. “Customs and border protection are doing a great job on the border, but they are so undermanned, when you look at the sheer amounts cartels are moving across and all the ways they are moving them. We are truly under siege with this drug and it is an incredibly terrifying drug.” (RELATED: ‘It’s Not Being Stopped’: Doocy, Jean-Pierre Bicker Over Fentanyl Flooding Through Southern Border)

Overdoses killed over 100,000 Americans in 2021, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. One kilogram of fentanyl can reportedly kill up to a half-million people, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Donahue said the DEA warned local law enforcement about fentanyl in multi-colored pills.

“They are pointed toward children, we call them skittles. Young kids are using these and little children think they are candy, they could eat those and they will die from ingesting the pills,” he said.

Donahue also claimed the Biden administration was ignoring pleas for help.

“This administration seems to be complicit in allowing and encouraging drugs to come across into our country,” Donahue claimed. “Attacking our children, this is focused for children, no other way to explain it, why would you make drugs in rainbow colors other than to attract younger consumer group to make them addicts for life or kill them?”

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
