An Arizona college board candidate was charged with public sexual indecency after police discovered him allegedly masturbating within 200 feet of a preschool, according to police records.

Randy Kaufman, currently running for the Maricopa County Community College Governing Board, was discovered by a police officer after the position of his truck on campus seemed suspicious, according to the report. The officer approached Kaufman, who was within eyesight of children on the playground, and allegedly saw him quickly cover his genitals. “I observed an adult male identified in this report as Randy Gene Kaufman sitting in the front driver’s seat. I immediately became alarmed as I saw he had his pants down mid-thigh and was exposed, showing his fully erect nude penis. He was manipulating his genitals in a masturbatory manner,” the officer wrote in the report.

The incident happened around 4:30 pm on Oct. 4 and was just 8 feet away from a cyclist, according to the report.

“Why would you do that here,” the officer asked, according to the report. “I saw a guy on a bike pass by you. If I could see you, don’t you think other people could? Cars were passing by you in the lot.”

Kaufman told the officer that he was “really stressed out,” had “a lot of things going on” and normally doesn’t masturbate in public, the report said. The officer questioned him about the preschool, but Kaufman denied seeing it before the officer brought it to his attention.

“Do you see how alarming that is,” the officer asked. “That there are children nearby, people passing on bikes and in cars where they can look and see what you are doing.”

Kaufman asked to speak off the record and told the officer he was running for office and had a friend in the police department, the report said. Following the interaction, Kaufman thanked the officer and told him he knew he was just doing his job.

“Can I say something off the record?” Kaufman asked. “I know Officer Jim Hill he works with you guys and I’m running for the governing board of the colleges.”

On Tuesday, Kaufman reportedly told KTVK local news outlet that he would be suspending his campaign, yet the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office stated that Kaufman did not officially withdraw his name as of Tuesday night, according to Insider. Kaufman’s name is already on the ballot and will be counted until his withdrawal is finalized.

Kaufman did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
