Gangsta Boo, a pioneering female rapper and member of the Three 6 Mafia hip hop group, died Jan. 1 of a suspected overdose, according to multiple outlets.
Gangsta Boo, whose real name is Lola Mitchell, was found dead at 4:00 p.m. on New Year’s Day, Fox 13 News reported. Sources close to the situation said Mitchell was with her brother at a concert in Memphis the night before and that he began to overdose during the night. He required hospitalization but is expected to recover, according to TMZ. Sources also said narcotics were found on Mitchell’s body, the outlet noted. An upcoming autopsy will determine the star’s official cause of death.

Those close to the situation believe a fentanyl-laced substance led to Mitchell’s suspected overdose, and Memphis police have launched an official investigation into the artist’s death, per TMZ.
Mitchell’s friend and fellow Three 6 Mafia artist DJ Paul posted an image of the deceased rapper, prompting a slew of celebrities and artists to comment with messages of condolence and shared memories, including 2Chainz, Lil John and Ludacris.

Gangsta Boo was one of the only female rappers with the crew, but she held her own for years as part of T6M. Over the course of her career, she worked alongside rap titans Gucci Mane, Lil John, OutKast, E-40, T.I. and The Game, to name a few.
Her most notable albums include “Mystic Stylez” “Chapter 1,” “When the Smoke Clears” and “Choices: The Album.” Mitchell was active on social media until shortly before her death.
