A grandmother is in custody, facing charges after her grandson was allegedly stabbed to death by her daughter.

Mary Johnson was booked with child endangerment after summoning the police to the home of her daughter, Monica Figueroa, in the early hours of March 13, CBS 19 reported. When police arrived on scene, they found 4-year-old Grayson Hurt, Johnson’s grandson, dead and partially covered with a blanket, the outlet reported.

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) said in their preliminary investigation that Johnson had witnessed Figueroa allegedly stabbing her son the previous day with a wooden-handled knife as he was wrapped in a blanket.

“Johnson heard the child screaming before she observed Figueroa cutting at the blanket and then the screaming stopped,” Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse stated, according to the outlet. “Figueroa threatened Johnson and instructed her to leave which she did.” (RELATED: Mom Allegedly Stabs 3-Year-Old Daughter To Death)

When Johnson returned the next day, she found Hurt dead and called the authorities.

Authorities initially believe that Hurt was killed with an “edged weapon” and his body was transported to Dallas for an official autopsy, the outlet stated.

Figueroa reportedly confessed to murdering the boy while being questioned by investigators. She is currently in custody and is awaiting arraignment at the Henderson County Jail, the outlet stated.

Johnson was also placed under arrest at the Henderson County Jail following a warrant from District Court Judge Scott McKee on charges of child endangerment. She is awaiting arraignment.
