President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden published their 2022 federal income tax return Tuesday, reporting a joint federal adjusted gross income of $579,514, the White House said in a statement.
The couple paid $169,820 in combined federal, Delaware and Virginia income taxes, bringing their effective federal income tax rate to 23.8%, the statement reads.
The president receives an annual salary of $400,000.
The president and the first lady also contributed $20,180 to 20 different charities. Their largest reported contribution, $5,000, went to the Beau Biden Foundation, which is a public charity dedicated to ensuring children are free from abuse.
“With this release, President Biden has shared a total of 25 years of tax returns with the American public. Once again demonstrating his commitment to being transparent with the American people about the finances of the Commander-in-Chief, President Biden has released the most tax returns of any president while in office,” the White House said. In 2021, the first couple reported federal adjusted gross income of $610,702 and paid $150,439 in federal income tax, according to the White House.
Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff also released their 2022 tax returns, reporting federal adjusted gross income of $456,918 and $93,570 in federal income tax.
The second couple’s gross salary was down, as they reported earning $1,655,563 in 2021.
