Well … this is a bit disappointing.
There’s a load of anticipation around the release of the NFL’s 2023 season schedule; however, the league may delay its release date, according to a report from NBC’s Peter King.
The schedule was originally set to be revealed Thursday during an 8 p.m. primetime show, but now it’s looking unclear whether or not the NFL will be finished with the schedule by the deadline.
King said over the weekend that he was told the league has concerns about the schedule being completed in time, and while that could still happen, the cloudy future is making some people feel uneasy about it dropping Thursday.
One of the biggest concerns from the NFL is around the tentpole games, which are the Thursday, Sunday and Monday season opening matchups; the Thanksgiving Day contests; the brand new Black Friday game; the Christmas Eve Sunday game and the Monday tripleheader taking place Christmas Day. These games normally get special attention and are completed by the beginning of May, but the NFL currently hasn’t decided on the scheduling, according to King.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and the league’s schedule crew are meeting in New York on Monday afternoon.
The NFL hoped to have its regular season schedule announced on Thursday, but there’s a chance it may not be ready and could be delayed, per @peter_king. The schedule makers are expected to meet with Commissioner Roger Goodell later today. More clarity expected after that.
