Paramount+ dropped a slew of original series, movies, and other content from its platform Monday, including one or two that were expected to do quite well.

Various pieces of programming, including “Inside Amy Schumer” and a host of Nickelodeon shows were purged from the streaming service at some point on Monday, according to Deadline. Creative content from Foo Fighters’ lead singer Dave Grohl has also been dropped, as well as a docuseries about convicted child sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell.

In mid-June, Paramount+ also announced that shows such as “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies,” “Star Trek: Prodigy,” “The Game” and “Queens of the Universe” were all either canceled or scrapped. Though it’s not like any of these shows were going to do well, the timing of their cancellation is significant, as it coincides with what appears to be an almost full shutdown of the entertainment industry thanks to the Writers Guild of America strike.

And with Paramount+ investing so much time and money into epic content from “Yellowstone” co-creator Taylor Sheridan, it makes sense for them to pull funding for shows that just aren’t on the same level. Sheridan has a slew of series in development and coming out soon with Paramount+. Examples include “Special Ops: Lioness,” “Land Man,” “Bass Reeves,” “Tulsa King,” as well as all the shows involved in the “Yellowstone” universe. Even though Sheridan only agreed to make so many shows to buy his dream ranch, I am pretty thrilled that Paramount+ in leaning into what is simply expert creative content.
