Prince Constantin of the European nation Liechtenstein died suddenly Tuesday at the age of 51, his family announced in a press release on their royal website.
The Prince was a father of three, and seventh in line to the throne of Liechtenstein, a tiny nation of 40,000 citizens between Austria and Switzerland. The Prince’s death was unexpected, according to his family, and no official cause has been revealed at this time. He leaves behind his wife, Princess Marie of Liechtenstein, along with two sons and a daughter.

In addition to his royal duties, the Prince served as chairman of the supervisory board of the Liechtenstein Group. The group is the largest private banking and asset management firm in the world to be owned by a royal family, according to CBS News

“It was with great sadness that I learned today of the death of SD Prince Constantin of Liechtenstein,” apostolic administrator Benno Elbs said in a statement, Vaterland reported. “On behalf of the Archdiocese of Vaduz, I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to SD Prince Hans-Adam II, the wife of the deceased, Princess Marie, and their children Prince Moritz, Princess Georgina, and Prince Benedikt.”
