Eddie Murphy makes an epic return in the newly released trailer for “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.”

The famous actor and comedian proved he still has what it takes to play Detective Axel Foley a full four decades after the original movie and after a significant hiatus from Hollywood. The action-packed trailer shows Murphy taking on the role that initially shot him to superstardom as if no time had passed at all. It’s full of thrills, comedy and wild car chase scenes fans won’t want to miss.

Netflix added a synopsis for the movie under the trailer to tease fans as to what they can expect from the new film.

“After his daughter’s life is threatened, she (Taylour Paige) and Foley team up with a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and old pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) to turn up the heat and uncover a conspiracy,” it read.

Fans have been waiting for Murphy to reprise his role for quite some time. The famous actor revealed he stopped making movies in 2011 after a series of box-office flops landed him on the list of Golden Raspberry Awards, also known as the Razzies — the who’s-who list of epic Hollywood fails.

After disappointing reviews from, “Norbit,” “The Adventures of Pluto Nash” and “Meet Dave,” Murphy dipped from the scene, thinking he’d take a break and come back stronger, according to Today. His absence was prolonged, and after some time, he decided he wanted to come back to reclaim his role as a funny, hit-making star, the outlet reported.

Murphy admitted it was “rough” for him to reprise his role, in a previous interview with People.

“It was a hard one,” Murphy said. “I did Axel Foley when I was in my 20s. I am not in my 20s anymore.” (RELATED: ‘Not In My 20s Anymore’: Eddie Murphy Opens Up About The Challenges Of Making Another Sequel 40 Years After First Film)

He managed to pull it off, and the teaser video is the perfect dose of epic nostalgia, combined with the excitement of something new around the corner.

“Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” will be released on Netflix in the summer of 2024, according to People.
