Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy on Friday said biological male transgender athletes should not be permitted to compete against girls.

A transgender high school athlete in Oregon finished in first place and second place in running events against girls during the Portland Interscholastic League Championship semifinals, Fox News reported on Wednesday. Fox Business host Stuart Varney asked Portnoy if he has a “problem” with this, which he answered affirmatively, adding that he would be against his hypothetical daughter having to experience this. “I don’t care, transgenders should have as many rights as you can give and everything else, but there is an element, and it’s just science that boys and girls, men and women are different,” Portnoy said. “And if I had a girl competing in this and she’s eliminated and doesn’t win essentially because there’s somebody who has a genetic advantage, that would bother me. I don’t think it’s out of bounds and I don’t think it’s discriminatory, there’s some things when you decide that you’d like to switch gender that you can no longer do, which is compete against, you know, girls. That’s just a scientific fact.”

President Joe Biden’s administration released a finalized rule in April that extends Title IX protection to encompass “sexual orientation” and “gender identity,” but it does not address transgender athletes. Secretary of Education

Miguel Cardona refused to answer questions from Republican Utah Rep. Burgess Owens at a recent hearing about this issue, saying he would not comment on rules related to athletics that his department has not yet proposed.

The secretary would not say whether he would let boys fight his daughter in sports or undress in front of her in bathrooms.

Almost half of U.S. states have enacted legislation banning transgender student athletes from competing in female sports categories.
