A small group of environmentalists wearing air filter masks gathered Wednesday outside the White House to protest the Trump administration’s reversal of policies aimed to curb global warming.
Religious leaders, wore air filter masks over their religious garments as eco-activists called on President Donald Trump to address global warming. Protesters appealed to Trump’s religiosity to convince him to reverse campaign promises to roll back environmental regulations.
Protesters held up signs reading “Earth cries out” and asked Trump to “listen” to scientists — in different languages, of course. One protester described climate scientists as modern day prophets.
The small protest aimed to build publicity for the “Peoples Climate March” planned on April 29.
“A diverse group of religious leaders will tell Donald Trump today that mother nature is sounding the alarm on climate and that his administration’s actions are morally unacceptable,” reads the Sierra Club’s press statement about Wednesday’s protest.
“Faith leaders from numerous faith traditions will come together, wearing air filter masks over their traditional garments to show that eliminating common sense environmental protections will harm our neighbors, as dirty air and a damaged climate make people sick,” reads the Sierra Club’s release.
