MSNBC will not air President Donald Trump’s “Salute to America” event, a July 4th celebration set to take place Thursday.
The network confirmed to Politico Tuesday that they have no plans to carry the event live, but may air clips of the event during its regular programming. The report stated that Fox News and CSPAN will carry the full event live, with ABC News, CBS, and NBC streaming the event on their websites. The rally planned for Thursday in Washington D.C. is expected to include an unprecedented show of military might, including tanks, planes, military bands, and drill teams, and a potential F-35 flyover, among others. The president has publicly mused about the idea of a military-style event since 2017 after witnessing France’s annual Bastille Day parade that year. Trump has faced criticism for the event, with some panning the celebration as authoritarian and frivolous. The event is expected to spark protests around the National Mall and throughout Washington D.C.
