The NBA is considering a very large financial incentive for a potential midseason tournament.

According to ESPN, the league is considering giving every player on the winning team a $1 million bonus. Another idea that’s been kicked around is adding a draft pick for the winning squad. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)

I like the idea of a $1 million bonus a lot more than an extra draft pick. Team leadership might prefer the draft pick, but players won’t really give a damn about it.

However, getting an extra $1 million for winning a couple games is something teams will absolutely care about.

Do you know what pro athletes love? They love money. Money and pro sports go together like peanut butter and jelly.

If you want players to give a damn about a midseason tournament, then they need to be paid at a level that’ll make them care.

We’ll see what the NBA decides to do, but the financial incentive is a lot smarter than the draft pick in my eyes. Players will care a lot more.
