Matthew Stafford’s wife Kelly had a heartfelt goodbye message for Detroit.

The Lions and Stafford will be going their separate ways this offseason, and it’s not an easy pill for anyone to swallow. Fortunately, it sounds like the quarterback and his family are leaving the city on great terms. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)

Kelly wrote the following in part Monday in an Instagram post:

Random tears come very often when I think about not being here. This place supported me during the toughest time of my life and during the happiest times and I want to thank y’all in the right way. Whenever I figure out what the future holds, you’ll be hearing from me again with a thank you that hopefully shows how much gratitude and love I have for this place.

Well, this split is absolutely going to tear our souls out, isn’t it? There’s just no easy way about. It’s going to be painful.

Losing Stafford isn’t going to be easy, it’s not something we were hoping to do, but it’s going to happen. At this point, you just have to accept it and move on.

More than anything, I’m glad that his wife is happy, both sides seem to be okay with how things are ending and Stafford will now get a chance to play on a winning team.

This really feels like when your great friend is leaving for bigger and better things and you just can’t go with him.

You’re happy for the success, time shared together and the memories, but it still stings. I really can’t think of any better way to describe what’s going on.
