Nebraska quarterback Luke McCaffrey is leaving Lincoln.
McCaffrey, who was viewed as the future of the program as QB, announced Tuesday afternoon that he’s leaving the Cornhuskers. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)
“After struggling with this decision for weeks, I have decided to enter the transfer portal and explore my options,” the McCaffrey brother tweeted.
After struggling with this decision for weeks, I have decided to enter the transfer portal and explore my options. I am thankful for the support Nebraska fans have shown me. I have so much love for my coaches and teammates from my time here. I am excited for the future.

This really doesn’t make a bunch of sense to me. Adrian Martinez might still be in Lincoln, but everyone knows he’s on thin ice.
In fact, he was literally benched in 2020 in favor of McCaffrey. Why wouldn’t the young passer stick around to push for the starting job?

I guess he must feel that Adrian Martinez is the leader for the starting job going into the spring, and he clearly just wants to bounce.
The good news for McCaffrey is that he was a big-time recruit and he comes from football royalty. I have no doubt at all that plenty of schools will come calling.

Fun story, when I was in Lincoln in 2019, people couldn’t stop praising Luke McCaffrey. They literally talked about him like he was the savior of the program. I guess not!
Huge thank you to everybody who made my trip to Nebraska an unforgettable experience.
The Cornhuskers truly have the best fans in America. I felt at home, and lost count of all the free drinks we were given.

Now that the game is over and Wisconsin won, I want to say I am blown away by the hospitality of Nebraska fans.
They won’t let me pay for a drink. I was told they’re the nicest fans in the sport, and they didn’t disappoint.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers are an all-class fanbase.
