‘Lord Of The Rings’ TV Series Will Premiere Sept. 2, 2022 On Amazon Prime

“Lord of the Rings” will arrive on Amazon in 2022.

The streaming giant announced Monday that the highly-anticipated TV series based on the books from J.R.R. Tolkien will premiere Sept. 2, 2022, and new episodes will drop every week. (REVIEW: ‘Westworld’ Season 3 Ends With The Possible Deaths Of Multiple Characters)

Amazon released the following details on the plot.

The new epic drama brings to screens for the very first time J.R.R. Tolkien’s fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. Beginning in a time of relative peace, thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth.

Head of Amazon Studios Jennifer Salke said the following about the upcoming series:

The journey begins September 2, 2022 with the premiere of our original The Lord of the Rings series on Prime Video. I can’t express enough just how excited we all are to take our global audience on a new and epic journey through Middle-earth! Our talented producers, cast, creative, and production teams have worked tirelessly in New Zealand to bring this untold and awe-inspiring vision to life.

Amazon also dropped the first image from the show. While it’s not much, it’ll be more than enough to wet the whistle for fans around the globe.

I honestly can’t wait for “Lord of the Rings” to arrive on Amazon. It’s going to be absolutely awesome, and I think I speak for everyone when I say we’re excited.

The first season will be the most expensive single season of television in history. If that doesn’t get your expectations amped up, then I don’t know what will.

We might still be more than a year away, but it’ll get here soon enough. Plus, I’m willing to wait as long as it’s great! I can promise you that!
