Missing Man Who Flipped Off Canoe Found Alive, Police Say

A Florida man who went missing Sunday after falling off a canoe was found alive nearly 40 hours later, according to police.

Davidson Anjab, 39, was canoeing with two friends in the Alexander Springs area of Altoona when the canoe overturned, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Anjab’s two friends were able to get back into the canoe, but Anjab was unable to and instead swam back to the shore. He told his friends he would walk back and meet up with them later, according to police.

Anjab, however, never returned. The sheriff’s Marine Patrol Unit, helicopter, K-9 deputies, mounted posse and others began searching for Anjab. (RELATED: Autistic Boy Missing For Three Years Found 700 Miles Away Shivering Outside Gas Station)

A team of lake deputies and officers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission finally located Anjab on Monday “in an extremely dense area of the forest near where he was last seen walking Sunday afternoon,” police said.

Anjab received “fluids and medical attention as he recovers from being out in that environment for roughly 40 hours” at a local hospital.

The sheriff’s office called the rescue a “team effort.”

The sheriff’s office shared a video of authorities rescuing Anjab via helicopter. The video shows heavy forestry covering the area.
