Chicago Police Commander Don Jerome confirmed that 3 people are dead and 2 are injured after a shooting that took place following an unsanctioned drag race in Chicago, Sunday.

Jerome said police were called at 4:00 a.m. after it was reported that approximately 100 cars had gathered at an intersection for an unauthorized drag race and drift show, according to CNN.  Shooters reportedly fired least 13 rounds at the illegal racing event. A total of five people were transported from the scene, CNN reported.

Jerome confirmed that three Hispanic men, all of whom had gang affiliations, died as a result of this incident, according to CNN. The deceased reportedly range in age from 15 to 20 years old.

The other two people transported to the hospital remain in serious condition at Mount Sinai Hospital. Jerome indicated that both are expected to recover fully, according to CNN. (RELATED: The Bears Can’t Even Be Bribed To Stay In Crime-Ridden Chicago)

A police investigation has been launched to identify the suspects responsible for the incident, but no suspect descriptions or details have been released at this time. “There’s probably up to one or two people that we’re still looking to speak to … not necessarily those in the hospital,” Jerome told reporters, according to CNN.

Police did not recover any weapons at the scene.
