Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis said during a Thursday press conference that California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom needs to stop “pussyfooting” around a possible run against President Joe Biden.

DeSantis was asked about his thoughts on Newsom possibly throwing his hat into the 2024 presidential election and challenging the incumbent Biden.

“He’s got huge problems in his state. I mean, like, huge problems in his state. We all know that. I mean, you see it in San Francisco, you see it in LA …,” DeSantis said during the press conference.

“He has a real serious fixation on the state of Florida. I mean, I think it’s just bizarre that he does that. But what I would tell what I would tell him is you know what, stop pussyfooting around. Are you going to throw your hat in the ring and challenge Joe? Are you going to get in and do it or are you just going to sit on the sidelines and chirp?” DeSantis added. In Nov. 2022, Newsom said he would not seek the Democratic presidential nomination in 2024, even if Biden does not run. However, he has recently dodged questions about jumping into the race due to Biden’s old age. (RELATED: Newsom Pledges Not To Run In 2024 Even If Biden Doesn’t)

“I see where you’re going with that. No — I’m not answering,” Newsom told Fox News host Sean Hannity on Tuesday after being asked about a possible run against Biden.

Newsom has attacked the Florida governor over issues such as DeSantis’ battle against sexualization of children in schools and his shuttling of illegal immigrants to places such as Martha’s Vineyard. Newsom at one point met with Texas Sheriff Javier Salazar about potentially prosecuting DeSantis.

After the event, DeSantis’ PAC started selling shirts that say: “Stop Pussyfooting Around”
