DJ Mister Cee Dead At 57

DJ Mister Cee, credited for discovering the legendary Notorious B.I.G. and a prominent fixture in hip hop’s radio culture, died at the age of 57.

His death was confirmed by Hot 97, the station where he built the foundation of his career. It posted a touching message as it paid tribute to the staff’s friend and colleague.

“As a family at #HOT97 and #WBLS, we’re deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved #MisterCee,” Hot 97 wrote. “He wasn’t just a DJ; he was a pillar of our stations, bringing joy to countless listeners with his legendary ‘Throwback at Noon’ sets.”

The radio station honored the talented DJ’s contributions in the world of entertainment.

“Mister Cee’s influence stretched far beyond the airwaves, shaping the very fabric of NYC’s DJ culture,” the radio station wrote. “Our hearts are heavy as we send our love and condolences to his family and the fans whose lives he touched through his music. Rest easy, Mister Cee. Your legacy will forever resonate. 🕊️”

DJ Mister Cee’s real name was Calvin LeBrun and his early career began when he deejayed for Big Daddy Kane. He discovered Notorious B.I.G. in the early 1990s and worked with him before the legendary star signed with Diddy’s Bad Boy Records. Cee was still actively working at the radio station and uploading his radio mixes to his Soundcloud account until the time of his death.

The circumstances surrounding his death have not been made public at time of publication.
