Multiple injuries were reported Saturday on the set of Eddie Murphy’s movie “The Pickup” after a truck and car collided during filming, according to The Associated Press (AP).
Initial reports indicate several crew members on the set of the film were injured, and two required hospitalization, according to The AP. The Amazon MGM Studios production was halted after the incident, a source close to the production said. The scene was being filmed in Georgia and had been rehearsed to ensure safety precautions were taken, a spokesperson from the studio said. The victims’ injuries reportedly ranged from bumps and bruises to broken bones.
One of the victims was reportedly still in the hospital Tuesday. It has been confirmed that Murphy and his co-stars Keke Palmer and Pete Davidson were not on set at the time of the incident, according to The AP. All affected parties are expected to make a full recovery.
A source close to the matter said he believed the truck being used for the scene locked up and hit the car.
“It was a completely freak accident,” the unnamed source said, according to The AP. “It wasn’t even a complicated or dangerous stunt.”
A studio spokesperson issued a statement about the incident, explaining the series of events that led up to the crash.
“Unfortunately, the sequence did not go as planned and several members of the crew were injured as a result,” the spokesperson told The AP. “We are still in the process of gathering facts on what happened and why, but first and foremost our thoughts are with those who are recovering.”
“The well-being of the entire crew and cast is our first priority, and we will continue to insist on the highest industry standards of safety while filming. All safety precautions were reviewed prior to and monitored during the shoot.” (RELATED: Sylvester Stallone Reveals Painful Injury Led To Major Twist When Filming ‘Rocky II’)
