$50 million a year! Must be nice!
Donovan Mitchell — the All-Star guard of the Cleveland Cavaliers — has signed a three-year, $150.3 million maximum contract extension featuring a player option that will come into play in the 2027-28 campaign, sources told ESPN. The Cavaliers now have their franchise player under contract after the 2024-25 season, which provides the organization stability. The deal reportedly hands Mitchell a guaranteed $185 million over four years, and also gives him the opportunity to meet the NBA’s 10-year service criteria that would present a 5-year, $380 million max deal in 2027.
Both Mitchell and CAA Basketball co-head Austin Brown, his agent, met Saturday night in Los Angeles with Cleveland’s President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman and came to a deal, sources told ESPN. A large part of why Mitchell decided to commit to the Cavs was reportedly because he and his agent’s confidence in their ability to build a championship contender out of the team. And not just that, but Mitchell sees himself a part of the building process, according to the four-letter network.

Nobody just stays in Cleveland, so I’m thinking Donovan Mitchell didn’t just get paid, he’s also getting LeBron-esque power within the organization when it comes to roster moves … and I’m willing to bet that transitions over to coaching and front office decisions as well.
If that’s the case, having ultimate power and wealth, I can’t even blame him for staying.
