Joan Benedict Dies At 96

Famous soap opera star Joan Benedict died June 24 at Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center due to complications from a stroke at the age of 96.

Benedict was a beloved actress who spent decades entertaining fans in a variety of roles. The talented star was best known for her recurring role as Edith Fairchild on “General Hospital” and for her role on “Days of Our Lives.” A spokesperson for her family confirmed her death Monday, according to TMZ. Benedict was the widow of Oscar award-winning actor Rod Steiger, who died in 2002.

The talented actress got her start in the entertainment industry in the 1950s, when she joined “Candid Camera.”

After her career kicked off, she went on to star on “The Steve Allen Show” before landing roles on “The Smith Family,” ‘The Incredible Hulk,” “Apple’s Way” and “Fantasy Island,” according to The Independent.

Benedict’s catalog of credits also include the films “The Happy Hooker Goes to Washington,” “The Trials of Rosie O’Neill,” “Dollhouse,” “The Prize Fighter” and “Perfect Victims.”

Her most recent work was showcased in the 2006 film “The Theory of Everything” and the 2009 television show “Dollhouse,” according to TMZ. Benedict also appeared in the 2017 movie, “Opus of an Angel.”

In addition to her television and film roles, the talented actress was also comfortable on the stage. She played Leona Helmsley in the play “Leona” and starred in her own solo autobiographical show, “The Loves of My Life.” (RELATED: ‘Bodyguard’ Actor Dead At 90)

Benedict released a memoir titled “Brooklyn Baby: A Hollywood Star’s Amazing Journey Through Love, Loss & Laughter” in 2016, according to The Independent.

She is being fondly remembered on social media as fans, friends and loved ones take to the internet to share fond memories of her.
