Country music superstar Luke Combs told the “Are You Garbage?” podcast Monday that he “bullied” his father out of being a vegetarian.
Everyone goes through at least one fad-diet phase in their life, and Luke Combs’ father is clearly one of them. Combs revealed that during his teenage years in North Carolina, his old man leaned into the non-meat-eating habit for a pretty significant chunk of time.
“My dad actually, for seven or eight years, was a vegetarian,” Combs told the podcast hosts. “Listen dude, we lived in Asheville. This is the San Francisco of the east coast. It’s a very eclectic spot to grow up.”
While he and his mother never gave up the good stuff, it definitely meant there were a lot of meat-free family dinners.
“I remember the day my dad quit being vegetarian, because I would almost like bully him …” Combs continued. “I was probably 13, 14 at this time and just had enough. I’d just had enough. I was putting my fat foot down … So I remember going up, and we had made this steak and my dad was eating his whatever, like lentil loaf or whatever he was eating. “I was like, ‘Dad, eat a piece of this steak, dude.’ I just straight up called him out … and he popped a piece in and never looked back. Definitely didn’t stick to his guns on that one,” Combs told the lads.

Aside from the vegetarian part, Combs‘ dad sounds pretty great. He raised his son in one of the best parts of the world: the North Carolina mountains. And they certainly embraced all the local area had to offer. Combs liked it so much he stayed there for college. With so much family nearby making all the N.C. favorites, from deviled eggs to mac n cheese, why would he ever want to leave?
