Surveillance video from July 1 shows the intense moments that a Chick-fil-A employee in metro Atlanta fought off an armed suspect who broke into the restaurant, KTLA5 reported Wednesday.
The inventory director, identified as Kevin Blair, told police that a masked suspect broke into the store’s kitchen by throwing a rock through the drive-thru window, then threatening to shoot him and demanding to open the store’s safe, according to KTLA5.
After refusing, Blair, who had been practicing karate for the past two years, decided to fight back, WSB-TV reported.
“He [the suspect] told me if I couldn’t open the safe, I was gonna’ die,” Blair told WSB-TV. (RELATED: Novelty Shop Employees Fight Back Against Alleged Armed Thief, Brawl Ensues)

The video shows the suspect pointing a gun at Blair as they walk into the store’s backroom before the inventory director appears to reach for the gun and push the suspect back up against the door. Blair rips off the suspect’s mask as the two wrestle and throw punches, slamming into the wall and then through a door to an adjacent room.
Blair told WSB-TV that his karate training helped him fend off the suspect, adding, “I was fortunate that he was standing close enough that I could get my hands on his wrist and keep control.”
Police investigators arrested the 51-year-old suspect in connection to the incident after tracking what they believed was the suspect’s vehicle, KTLA5 reported.
“I’m glad that he’s off the streets,” Blair told WSB-TV.
The suspect, who was apprehended July 31, has been charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, second-degree burglary, kidnapping, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and second-degree criminal damage to property, according to KTLA5.
