Gena Rowlands, most famous for playing Allie in “The Notebook,” reportedly died Wednesday afternoon at her home in Indian Wells, California, at the age of 94.
The beloved actress was surrounded by family at the time of her death, including her husband Robert and her daughter, Alexandra Cassavetes, according to TMZ. Her son, director Nick Cassavetes, had visited Rowlands several times during her final days. Rowlands had been battling Alzheimer’s Disease for several years and was in “full dementia,” Cassavetes said in June.
The star’s official cause of death has not yet been determined.

Rowland collaborated with her first husband, filmmaker John Cassavetes, many times. Their mutual work included “Gloria” and “A Woman Under the Influence.” Her son Nick directed “The Notebook.”
Early in her career, the talented actress starred in the Broadway debut of “The Seven Year Itch,” followed by the play “Middle of the Night” in 1956, according to BBC.
Rowlands’ long list of credits included “Another Woman,” “Faces,” “Opening Night,” “Unhook the Stars,” “Yellow and Broken English,” The Brink’s Job,” “Tony Rome,” Hope Floats” and “Tempest,” to name a few.

Her long list of accolades include four Emmy awards, two Golden Globes and two Oscar nominations, according to Deadline. She won Emmys for “The Betty Ford Story,” “Face of a Stranger,” “Hysterical Blindness” and “The Incredible Mrs. Ritchie.” (RELATED: ‘Scarface’ Star Angel Salazar Dead At 68)
Rowlands is survived by her husband Robert, whom she married in 2012, and her three children Nick, Alexandra and Zoe Cassavetes.
