Former President Trump and Republican Georgia Governor Brian Kemp appeared to settle their long-standing feud Thursday as the pair exchanged mutual endorsements.
Kemp appeared on Fox News’ “Hannity,” offering a strong endorsement for the former President.
“We need to send Donald Trump back to the White House,” Kemp told Hannity.
Trump, who had criticized Kemp as recently as early August, returned the favor, offering some kind words for Kemp on social media.
“Thank you to Brian Kemp for all of your help and support in Georgia, where a win is so important to the success of our Party and, most importantly, our Country,” Trump wrote on Truth Social shortly after Kemp’s “Hannity” appearance. “I look forward to working with you, your team, and all of my friends in Georgia to help MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump concluded.
Trump had bashed Kemp in early August, reportedly saying he’s “a bad guy, he’s a disloyal guy and he’s a very average governor.” After Kemp certified Joe Biden’s 2020 election win, Trump even called on him to resign.
His issue with Kemp stems from the Georgia Governor’s refusal to help him overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia.
Kemp refused to allow Georgia’s Republican state legislature to hold a special session to install pro-Trump electors to the Electoral College. Because of it, Trump vowed he would take revenge against Kemp and Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.
Despite the attacks from Trump, Kemp won his 2022 gubernatorial election, defeating Democratic darling Stacey Abrams with 54 percent of the vote.
Kemp is one of the more popular figures within the Republican party, with approval ratings of around 63 percent, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
