WASHINGTON (AP) — Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani says President Barack Obama “turned the corner” on understanding terrorism when he publicly declared the U.S. at war.
But in an interview Friday on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Giuliani also said he thinks Obama still has to pursue the problem as if on a war footing, the government must treat detainees as enemy combatants, not criminal defendants.
He accused the administration of too quickly ending interrogation of the Nigerian indicted in the Christmas bombing attempt aboard a Northwest Airlines flight. Giuliani, who was New York’s mayor when terrorists struck on Sept. 11, 2001, said, “Why in God’s name would you stop questioning a terrorist? Why would you put an artificial time limit on how much time you would spend questioning a terrorist.”
