Handmade in Estelí, Nicaragua, the La Fuerza (loosely translated as “the force”) is a large robusto (5.5 x 54) made by Don Pepin Garcia, who less that a decade ago was a master roller of Cuban cigars and a driving force behind the famous Cuban Cohiba brand. Now, one of his many projects includes making the 601 “Green” for EO Brands.

This Nicaraguan puro features an oily habano oscuro wrapper and a taste of black pepper spice with accompanying notes of coffee and roasted nuts. It’s a full-bodied powerhouse that manages to maintain balance on the palate. As it evolves, the spice is tempered slightly by notes of leather, clove, and cocoa bean. The physical properties are exactly what you’d expect from a Pepin-blended stogie: outstanding, with an even burn, a firm ash, and a smooth clear draw.

When it’s all said and done, this is one of the most full-bodied smokes we’ve ever had the pleasure to enjoy, which means it might not be quite right for the cigar amateur. Still, those who enjoy bold, complex flavors will find the EO 601 Green a fantastic cigar that pairs well with anything from black coffee to dark rum.
