Carbon-dating wine can spot fake vintages: research

The test measures trace amounts of carbon released into the atmosphere during atomic bomb testing that have been absorbed by vines and into the wine.

The radioactive carbon has gradually reduced each year since the testing stopped in the 1960s and scientists have been able to pin point which year wines were made.

The findings, being presented at the American Chemical Society meeting in San Francisco, could help wine collectors avoid the increasing problem of wine forgery.
