Summer of sequels: 2010 movie blockbusters [SLIDESHOW]

Julia McClatchy (admin)

In winter, all we want is to warm up. In summer, to cool off. It’s a paradox that suits Hollywood just fine.

When the heat gets so unbearable that moving to Antarctica sounds tempting, find solace in the cool, dark confines of a movie theater. For a couple of hours, at least, you can enjoy something besides humidity while munching on popcorn and candy. What’s more, the lineup of summer blockbusters has something to please everyone.

Kicking off the list is “Iron Man 2,” which hits theaters Friday, May 7. Close behind this month are the highly anticipated “Sex and the City” sequel, “Shrek Forever After” and “Robin Hood,” à la Russell Crowe.

June and July bring a selection of comedies starring guys like Adam Sandler, Jonah Hill and Steve Carell, in addition to mega-franchise threequels “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” and “Toy Story 3.”

If come August you still aren’t satisfied, fear not. The stars appearing in films this month include Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Eva Mendes, Will Ferrell, Luke Wilson and Michael Cera.

Here’s a closer look at movies to look out for this summer, to keep you entertained and cool:

Iron Man 2 is getting good buzz (better if you’re looking for a feel-good patriotic movie), I just read a good review about Prince Of Persia, and I have high hopes for the A Team being silly popcorn fun. But most of all I want to see what M. Night has done with Avatar: The Last Airbender. My guess is that it’ll be a decent movie with great effects, but I’m hoping for more (since it’s a truly brilliant story).
