An appellate court today ruled that nine members of the Hutaree militia must stay behind bars while it reviews the government’s appeal of a judge’s order to release them until trial.
A three-judge panel of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled to continue the temporary stay of U.S. Judge Victoria Roberts decision to free the Hutaree members pending trial.
A legal fight over the group’s freedom ensued last week after Roberts on May 3 ordered the defendants released over the objections of prosecutors.
