The latest political group to form in response to record government spending and control is Liberty Central. The founder of the organization is Virginia “Ginni” Thomas. Mrs. Thomas has previously worked for Representative Dick Armey, Hillsdale College, the Heritage Foundation, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. She has been a conservative activist for many years. She is also the wife of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
Liberty Central was founded in November 2009 to serve as a clearinghouse for citizen activism. It focuses on education to give its account of the principles that power America. The site will use videos to inspire and educate activists. Tools for activism, such as event calendars and links to like-minded groups, will also be a core focus of the organization.
The organization has five ‘founding principles’: limited government, individual liberty, free enterprise, national security, and personal responsibility. Some of the top issues the group wishes to deal with include job destruction, increasing dependency, attacks on charities, the Obama health care plan, and educational standards. It also promises to have a 2010 ‘heat’ map, which focuses on the top races in the November elections.
