U.S. passports being printed in Thailand despite repeated warnings about security

The U.S. government agency that prints passports has for years failed to resolve persistent concerns about the security risks involved in outsourcing production to foreign factories, a joint investigation by ABC News and the Center for Public Integrity has found.

Despite repeated assurances they would move production to the U.S., a key government contractor has continued to assemble an electronic component of the nation’s new, more sophisticated passport in Thailand.

The factory is near the same Bangkok suburb where a notorious terrorist extremist was captured in 2003. There have been bursts of violence in the industrial city, Ayutthaya, as recently as last month.

Both the inspector general at the Government Printing Office and the agency’s own security chief have warned specifically against producing the computer chip assembly in the Thai facility. One internal report obtained by ABC News and the Center for Public Integrity warned of a “potential long term risk to the [U.S. government's] interests.”

As I watch the debate of who is worse big capitalist or big government…..
Big gov. is doing more harm to more Americans. Attention to the left, better come up with some new “Why big Corporations are evil” stories, because your loosing the independent voters.

Without fail, every day after I read the news I think to myself “what could go wrong?”

AS i have mentioned previous, if a country(or company) has no manufacturing capacity to make the products it designs and that design is stolen then the country(or company) has no one to blame but itself(this was in reference to the ipad)

If a country has no capacity to make the legal documents itself then it has no one to blame when those documents are counterfeited. The problem in this case is that the documents are the PEOPLES, NOT the governments or the rancid marxist appeasers in the State Department.

Hre are a few more good ideas
    1) green cards printed in mexico(as are my home states drivers licenses, it’s OK, only 10-20% of the population is illegal)
    2) US currency could be printed in, hmmm.. , how about China?, maybe the Taliban could do it, hurry , get those bids
    3) we could have the passports printed in a southeast asia shithole, OH? we already DID that?

    these people beclown themself

Seriously? There is no printer inside the US that’s capable of this? Our government just can’t get any more stupid, can they.
