Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin may be running for RNC chair … or President of the United States

The ubiquitous speculation game about Sarah Palin’s political future has of recent days centered upon whether she could make an able replacement for Michael Steele as chairwoman of the Republican National Committee.

Lots of journalists and talking heads are having fun with the idea. “This is a job for Sarah Palin,” wrote the National Review’s Kevin D. Williamson over the holiday weekend, noting that “Palin would be a much better RNC chairman than presidential candidate or freelance kingmaker.”

But Palin’s political action committee — SarahPAC — released a video Thursday morning that appears to resemble an ad a presidential candidate might make — and not necessarily someone gunning to head a national political party.

The former governor narrates the spot over footage of Palin giving speeches and greeting supporters.

“It seems like it’s kind of a mom awakening in the last year and a half, where women are rising up and saying, ‘No, we’ve had enough already,’” Palin says. “Because moms kind of just know when something’s wrong. Here in Alaska, I always think of the mama grizzly bears that rise up on their hind legs when somebody’s coming to attack their cubs, to do something adverse toward their cubs. You thought pit bulls were tough, well you don’t mess with the mama grizzlies.”

Writing about the video in his morning e-mail, the Politico’s Mike Allen commented: “This shrewdly choreographed montage may help yank Palin back toward the mainstream, and certainly will inspire some second looks from those unimpressed by her off-the-cuff moments. The emphasis on women could help expand Palin’s appeal toward the center, helping the Republican Party with its demographic peril. The elegant video should score with voters who liked Palin’s message but were cool to the messenger.”

Earlier this year, Palin said she “certainly” would run for president if she comes to see it as being the “right thing to do for our country and for the Palin family.” She has not made any public comments regarding the RNC chairwoman speculation.
