Republican Senate candidate Kelly Ayotte of Nashua landed one of the last, big GOP endorsements with the backing of former U.S. Sen. Warren Rudman of Hollis, The Telegraph confirmed Wednesday.

Rudman held this seat for 12 years before retiring in 1993. His successor, Nashua native Judd Gregg, has served in the Senate since and declared 15 months ago he was not seeking re-election to a fourth term.

Gregg came out for Ayotte late last summer soon after she became an official candidate.

“Kelly Ayotte is a gold-standard public servant,” Rudman said in a statement. “As attorney general, she worked tirelessly for New Hampshire citizens. Kelly’s commitment to vigorously pursuing justice and fighting for victims distinguishes her as one of the strongest attorneys general New Hampshire has ever seen.”
