Senate Republicans removed Lisa Murkowski of Alaska from their party’s leadership on Wednesday and elected John Barrasso of Wyoming to replace her as vice chairman of the Republican conference.
Ms. Murkowski, who was defeated in the Republican primary, is running a write-in campaign to keep her seat and the Republican Party is supporting its nominee, Joe Miller.
Aides said that no action was taken to replace Ms. Murkowski as the senior Republican on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee. And Ms. Murkowski issued a statement saying she looked forward to continuing in that role.
