Cindy McCain criticizes military policy supported by husband

Cindy McCain, the wife of 2008 GOP presidential nominee John McCain, is making waves in a new video about the bullying of gay youth.

The Arizona senator’s wife criticizes unnamed “political and religious leaders” who tell lesbian, gay, bisexual and trangender youth “they have no future” and “can’t serve our country openly” in the video for the NOH8 campaign, which opposes California’s Proposition 8 banning same-sex marriage.

Sen. McCain, top Republican on the Armed Services Committee, led a filibuster in August to block repeal of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy that does not allow gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military. Repeal of the policy, first enacted in 1993, is included in the defense authorization bill pending before Congress.
