Texas’ Josh Hamilton easily wins AL MVP award

NEW YORK (AP) — Texas outfielder Josh Hamilton is a runaway winner of the American League’s Most Valuable Player award.

Hamilton received 22 first-place votes and 358 points in voting announced Tuesday by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.

Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera was second with five first-place votes and 262 points, followed by the Yankees’ Robinson Cano with 229 points. Toronto’s Jose Bautista had the remaining first-place vote and 165 points.

Hamilton overcame eight trips to rehab for drug and alcohol addiction to help the Rangers reach their first World Series. He led the majors in average (.359) and slugging percentage (.633). He had 32 homers and 100 RBIs despite missing time with two broken ribs.
