Let there be right

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth. And He created man. And God gave man free will, a sense of morality, initiative, ambition, and other characteristics essential to survival in a barren world. These characteristics allowed man not just to survive, but to flourish. And flourish he did, not just as individuals but for the “greater good.” Man cared not just for himself but he provided for his family and, when possible, for the less-able.

And God said, “Let there be RIGHT.” And thereupon, He created conservatives. God saw that the conservatives were compassionate and driven. The conservatives worked hard to provide better lives, not just for themselves and their families, but for those that worked for them. This, in turn, allowed the employees’ families to enjoy a better standard of living. The hard-working and ambitious, by virtue of their wealth, provided enhanced revenues to state, local, and federal bureaucracies in the form of taxes. These tax revenues allowed parks and highways and other essential infrastructure to be built, further enhancing society’s standard of living. And God saw that it was good.

But, just as God created the light and the darkness, when he said, “Let there be right,” he also made “left.” The left decided that is was far easier to shift into neutral and let the right drive. The left catered to the terminally lazy; those that found that a free ride was easier than getting up every day and going to work. The left decided that it was their “duty” to provide for the lazy. But that, in and of itself, was not necessarily a bad thing. After all, compassion for one’s fellow man is one of the inherent good traits that God bestowed upon man, the conservatives included. However, those on the left, in their infinite wisdom and with their sense of morality, decided that it was better to TAKE from the producers — the hard-working and driven — and give the fruits of the producers’ labors to the lazy in the form of welfare and other “subsidies.”

Surely, God rubbed His chin and had to wonder. When God said, “Let there be right,” He was, most assuredly, pleased with what He had made as He watched mankind rise from the hunting and gathering cave-dweller to the builder of great cities. But what had He created with this concept of left? He had created a sense of entitlement; that somehow, certain members of society were entitled to take — by force — that which others had produced.

Man’s inherent good will toward his fellow man helped to see him through good times as well as bad. Churches and soup kitchens helped to feed and house those who lost their jobs during the Great Depression. The country got through those terrible times and rose to be the envy of the world, not just in terms of wealth, but in terms of personal liberties and freedom. And God saw that it was good.

Where we go from here is up to us.
